by Romano Ventura THE STORY SO FAR: Romala couldn’t believe that Avventura took off like that. She went to get her things and returned only to receive a call and was out the door again. Where to? He was a little angry that she hadn’t told him anything. She was so pumped about going on the mission. What could be so important to leave? A lover? That made his blood boil and his eyes turn deep green. No. What else could it be? Before he could come up with an answer he looked around at his two visitors seated opposite him at the table. Both with cups of coffee, both trying to bring him out of his thoughts as they called, “Hey, Romala!” “Where were you just now?” Tarus uttered with a smile on his lips. “Yeah,” Luna chimed in. Romala turned to look at his brother’s daughter. She had come out of nowhere and Maximus had not informed him of her arrival. This worried him as she was only 18, by Elito law she was to be 21 to travel on her own without a guardian if not a family member—Maximus knew better than this. What was going on?
Tarus returns to Decera Castle to discover what Queen Margeta is up to. He uses the Elitae and what he finds is betrayal. Queen Margeta has hired Stara Zaran to stop Romala from finding the Deceran King. Avventura wants in on Romala’s mission as she is about to face her own betrayal. King Vollo of Guardia is blackmailing her to keep a watchful eye on Romala, or her friend who is in King Vollo’s hands will be harmed. Can she make it back in time for the mission?

THE STORY SO FAR:
Avventura sped down the highway in her red convertible. Away from the capital to the Deceran-Guardia border. At the check-out point she found her good friend Januario who greeted her with the widest of smiles. “Hello, doll,” he drawled as he leaned on the car door. “What’s the deal?” “Long time.” “You know the drill.” Januario went back to the booth and returned with a portable scanner. “Passport please.” Avventura poked around in her bag and pulled out her passport. Flipping it open, Januario ran the scanner over it. He then turned it on its side and saw all her details come up on the monitor. “All’s clear.” She put her passport away and turned back to see him leaning on the door again. “Doll, how’s about dinner tonight?” She smiled. “Each time I cross the border…” “You can’t blame a prodecura for trying.” He was 45. Younger than most Elitos who retired to take Prodecura positions. What possessed him? She asked that very question, it had slipped off her tongue before she could stop herself. Januario’s green eyes turned to red rage. “Long story.” “Maybe I’ll take you up on that date some time, and you can tell me all about it.” “Now that’s a date, doll.” He winked and waved her on through.

Tarus returned to Decera Castle, and as he walked down the grand hallway, he used the Elitae to hear what Stara Zaran and Queen Margeta were talking about. He focussed even more and this time he could hear every word they said.
“Let’s go over this one more time,” Queen Margeta declared. “I want you to stop Romala from finding the king.”
“Still after the crown Margeta?”
“I’ve earned the right to be queen.”
Tarus heard the clear deep laugh of Stara and listened closer.
“What right? You were betrothed to the king by your father.”
“It was the best decision King Guardia ever made.”
“He had no choice my queen. You made sure of that.”

Romala sped away from Decera Castle and took the highway to Elita, the capital. He knew Tarus was right. Avventura Electra would want in. He had no clue how to shake her. Shake her so she wouldn’t get hurt. What he needed was a plan. And fast.
He took a few short cuts until he reached his apartment building. He looked all the way up, each of the three levels consisted of a small balcony made of glass and light running beneath each one. To his surprise he saw a female form leaning against the railing of his balcony. He knew exactly who it was, knew why she there and how she got in.
Once he parked his motorbike in the underground car park, he made his way to the elevator. He didn’t have to wait long before he stepped inside and tried to work out his next step.

Romala removed his cloak, folded it and opened the case at the back of his motorbike. He put it in and closed it to then open a side panel.
Unbuckling the belt which held his sword, he folded it three times into a carry size and put that into the panel.
He didn’t bother to close it when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
“You’re right,” was all Tarus said as Romala swung round.
“What did she say?”
“She’s only after one thing.”
“Let me guess…the Deceran crown.”
Tarus nodded. “I want in.

Outside in the grand hallway, Romala came face to face with his enemy, Tarus Serano, Captain of the Elitan guards.
“Back for more,” Tarus spat out as he grinned widely.
“I received more.” Romala took the Decerans from his pocket and shook them in the air. “And there’s more to come.”
The grin dropped off his face. Red raged in his eyes, his lips tightened. “Don’t get too settled in.”
“I wouldn’t worry about that,” Romala replied as he put the Decerans back in his pocket.
“What are you saying?”
“Get out while you can.”
“I’m staying right here.”
“Then she’ll betray you. “

Installment One: Romala’s royal assignment
“I need your help,” Queen Margeta of Decera stated.
Romala Elito was taken aback. He hadn’t heard those words from Deceran royalty for some time.
“Why? I no longer serve you.”
“You’re still an Elito.”
Romala shot out of his chair, blue rage shone in his eyes. “Ma’am, I lost that priviledge when you hung me out to dry.”
He watched the Deceran queen get up from her desk and walk over to him.
He took in every inch of her body—those curves made his insides go crazy. Ever so slowly he let his eyes travel up the blue dress that clung to her body skin tight. Then to meet creamy white skin, soft red lips and blue-silver eyes.
Those eyes got to him every time—no, it was the mystery behind them.
